about

I was born in the 70s on a small, scenic farm in Estonia. After moving to the United States and completing a BA degree in Visual Arts/Media from University of California in San Diego, I worked for several years as a feature film editorial assistant on major film productions in the USA, Canada and Europe. While working at film editorials, I learned to appreciate how the complex, creative  choices of digital processes at various production stages, such as image capture, editing and color correction, can have a dramatic impact on the final outcome of the work. That experience inspired me to become a creator of my own personal visions. Since 2019, I have been creating art full time at my home studio in Los Angeles.

I am a digital media artist interested in studying and exploring photographic images of natural textures and objects, layering them and creating new perceptual experiences. I take my own photos and use several digital image manipulation programs and applications to achieve a result that matches my vision. The digital process allows me to freely explore creative options and choices, take risks and expand the range of possible imagery. I especially enjoy observing the results of blending layers of semi-transparent images and watching what it can become. An underlying image is able to achieve an unpredictable complexity of color and texture by adding visual information from a second layer. I try to utilize randomness to transcend the limits of logic and create image layering combinations that are unexpected and visually exciting. My themes often carry a hint of nostalgia and longing for the quiet Nordic landscapes I grew up with or elements of escapism reflecting my somewhat split identity as an expat.
